Yesterday evening I listened to an amazing message by Mark Driscoll. Driscoll is pastor of Mars Hill in Seattle. He was speaking at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary at their 2007 Convergent Conference. He discusses many issues on the emergent church and the direction theology is headed today in many “churches.” Toward the end of the message he describes an Acts 17 philosophy of ministry when Paul spoke to the men of Athens. This philosophy of ministry is one of subversion as opposed to syncretism and sectarianism. This is something worth listening to a few times to get an idea of what is happening today in our American culture. He also confronts some dangerous and even heretical teaching of some (like Rob Bell) in popular Christian teaching circles today that are subtly leading people astray.
This is very interesting since last Sunday in our G.A.P. Class we looked at Paul’s message in Acts 17 and Peter’s in Acts 2. Some of the message is very heady, uses big theological terms, and may not make any sense to you – Skip to the last 20 minutes of this message and you will be blessed. This will help you in learning how to share your faith.
